The “DO-ERS” are the PRACTICAL, HANDS-ON, DO-IT-YOURSELF individuals who enjoy pulling things apart and PUTTING THEM BACK TOGETHER.

They see themselves as PRACTICAL, MECHANICAL and REALISTIC.

  • Baker

    Bakers are responsible for the making and baking of items such as bread, rolls, cakes and pastries. Some bakeries boast specialised areas for bread, pies and confectionery.

  • Bricklayer and Plasterer

    The Bricklaying and Plastering Trade is one of the oldest trades in the building industry. Although building material has changed, the work of the Bricklayer and Plaster has basically remained the same throughout the ages.

  • Carpenter

    Carpenters work with wood. They do a variety of construction work ranging from wooden floors to dry walling. Most Carpenters work on construction sites for new buildings. They are normally self-employed or they work for construction businesses.

  • Chef

    Chefs are responsible for the planning, preparation and presentation of food in hotels, guest houses and restaurants.

  • Civil Engineer

    Civil Engineers are required to have an engineering degree and need to be registered aa professional engineers with the statutory body regulating the professions before they are allowed to practice in South Africa.

  • Electrician

    Electronics are involved in the generations, transformation, distribution and usage of electricity. They are responsible for the installation of all cables, lights and switches, plugs and electrical equipment when new buildings are constructed.

  • Farmer

    Farmers are mainly responsible for the production and marketing of South Africa’s food through crop and stock farming. The nature of a farm Worker’s duties differs according to the type of farm that he or she is employed on.

  • Leather Worker

    The Leather Worker uses suitable leather to cut the different pieces of leather for a pair of shoes or other items.

  • Locksmith

    Locksmiths open or close locks without the facility of the original key as a service to people in emergencies.

  • Machine Tool Setter and Operator

    Machine Tool Setter and Operators set up, operate or tend lathes, milling, grinding and drilling machines to produce specific metal or plastic parts.

  • Metal Worker

    Metal Workers, which include Boilermakers and platers, construct, maintain and repair structures of steel, plate and piping. These structures are normally found in manufacturing plants, power stations and mines or even on oil drill platforms.

  • Motor Mechanic

    The work of the Motor Mechanic involves the maintenance and repair of motor cars, buses, trucks and other vehicles.

  • Paper Maker

    The Paper Maker or Technologist is involved in the conversion of raw materials such as wood into primary product such as paper or paperboard.

  • Plumber

    Plumbers play an important role in enhancing the quality of life of people by providing the piping and structural infrastructure for water, sanitation and drainage.

  • Polisher

    Tool Polishers operate equipment that shape or grind pieces of metal to specific sizes or to remove excess material.

  • Road Surfacing Worker

    Road Surfing Workers use different kinds of machines to carry out such tasks such as making trenches, holes or excavations. The Operator makes holes and trenches in roads or crushes concrete, stone or other hard materials.

  • Specialist Mechanist

    Specialist Machinist set up, operate or tend CNC machine, Electrical Discharge Machining or EDM machines, laser and rapid prototyping machines to produce parts in hard metals.

  • Tailor

    Tailors and Seamstresses are involved in the sewing together of materials to produce clothing. In clothing factories they will be one of a number of people responsible for the production of clothing.

  • Tool Designer

    Tool Designers assist in the design and development of the tools needed for the mass production of manufactured goods. They originate or modify tool designs and prepare sketches of the design.

  • Tool, Die and Mould Maker

    The work of tool, Die and Mould Maker comprises the production of mechanical items such as jigs, fixtures, form tools, dies, moulds cutting tool, Metal pressing and drawing dies used in the manufacturing process.
