The work of the Motor Mechanic involves the maintenance and repair of motor cars, buses, trucks and other vehicles.
When a vehicle needs to be serviced, or has mechanical or technical problems, the owner will take it to a garage. Here the Mechanic obtains information about the service required by the owner. He or she fills in the job card. With services the vehicle is raised by means of a hydraulic jack to give mechanic access to the underside of the vehicle. Oil, oil filters and air filters are replaced. The mechanic checks and adjusts, if necessary, the breaks, shock absorbers, windscreen wipers and headlights.
Should the vehicle have any other problems, the Mechanic will use electronic and other diagnostic equipment to locate the problem. The fault and the type of vehicle will determine the method the mechanic will use to carry out the repair work. Faulty parts will be replaced. The Motor mechanic sometimes has to perform duties as panel beating, welding and electrical repair work.
