The Paper Maker or Technologist is involved in the conversion of raw materials such as wood into primary product such as paper or paperboard. These are then converted into final products such as books or boxes.
In the pulping process, debarked logs are converted into mechanical pulp. In the paper making process, raw materials are blended together with additives.
The Paper Technologist overseas all these paper production processes and he or she is also responsible for quality checks. The Responsibilities and level of work of the Paper Maker will depend on his or her experience and position in the specific paper mill. Paper Technologist also work in laboratories where they assist in research on improved processes and products.
The recycling of waste paper is also one of the Paper Technologist’s functions. All printing ink is removed before the waste paper is re-used.
