The Bricklaying and Plastering Trade is one of the oldest trades in the building industry. Although building material has changed, the work of the Bricklayer and Plaster has basically remained the same throughout the ages. Bricklayers and plasterers are usually the first tradesmen employed on a building project. They are responsible for building the outer and inner walls of the buildings as well as the finishing of these structures.

The Bricklayer skilfully build the walls of buildings by cementing bricks on top of each other. The Bricklayer uses tools such as the plumb and the level to ensure that walls are straight and level. Bricklayers work with ordinary or face bricks, concrete blocks, or even firebricks when building firebrick linings in furnaces. Once the walls are finished they are plastered. Plastering comprises the covering and finishing of the walls of a building with plaster cement mixture. This is done according to specifications and design.
