The use of plants to cure diseases is an old as the history of mankind. Anyone who owns a dog has seen how sick animals, even though they are carnivorous, eat plants like grass. If history is anything to go by, plants were used medicinally by human more than 60 000 years ago.

As a Herbalist you would not be a doctor of medicine but you would have to undergo a rigorous training in the use of herbs for curing different ailments. When a patient visits an Herbalist, he or she explains the symptoms of the disease causing discomfort. The Herbalist may ask questions to get a detailed picture about the patient’s dietary and medical history. The Herbalist may employ modern diagnostic methods such as X-rays and biochemical tests to diagnose the patient

Good Herbalists prepare their own remedies from plants which they buy or collect themselves. Each patient receives a tailor-made treatment. Treatment is normally aimed to at stimulating the patient’s own bodily defences produce relief or cure. Patients are also educated to follow a healthy lifestyle.
