As a Gardener Landscaper you will design and or plan gardens. This is often done in conjunction with a Landscape Architect. The work of the Garden Landscaper includes the laying out of gardens. He or she then decides where the different flowers, plants, trees and grass must be planted. The Garden Landscaper also designs and constructs water features or makes use of rocks and wood to enhance the soil type. He or she may also be responsible for designing and installing irrigation systems.

Once the garden has been laid out it becomes the responsibility of the Gardener to maintain the garden. Maintenance may include watering, cutting of trees and the replanting of seasonal flower beds.

 Gardeners can operate their own garden maintenance services or municipalities, home owners or landscaping and garden maintenance business can employ them. They also have opportunity to become Horticulturists, after completing a three-year training.
