Computer Numerically Controlled or CNC Programmers write computer programmes that control the machine tools and machining processes of CNC machines. The Programmer needs have a thorough knowledge of programming language, tool materials, cutting operations and process accuracies.

CNC Programmers reviews blueprints and compute the size and position of the cuts required for a specific component. Cuts may be linear, angular, or curved. They then determine the sequence of machine operations. This includes selecting tools and determining the machine speed and feed rates.

CNC Programmer then writes the programmes in a language the computer understands through the use of computer-assisted drafting software. They may also modify existing programs rather than write each program from scratch.
